3 Ways We Look After Anxious Patients
Hi, it’s Dr Joshua here from Delight Dental Spa here in Mascot, Sydney.
Last week, I met Erick from Rosebery for the first time. He’s been getting this toothache. He knew he needed to get his tooth checked by a dentist but was anxious about visiting one.
I noticed that some new patients can get very anxious about visiting a dentist for the first time. With this in mind, I recorded this video for you to get a sense of how we look after our anxious patients during dental treatment here at Delight Dental Spa.
To really get to know you
We want to understand any concerns you may have about visiting the dentist. We’re here to help and want to make sure we address those fears for you.
We have various strategies for managing pain, and we will discuss how we make sure you are comfortable throughout your treatment.
For those who are anxious about staying awake during the treatment, we can offer you sleep dentistry. And remember, we’re ready to make adjustments along the way to suit your needs during treatment.
We value open and face-to-face discussions before proceeding with treatment
This way, you’re not lying down and feeling vulnerable during our conversation. And when it’s time for the treatment, we have some comfort-enhancing amenities lined up for you. Like applying moisturiser on your lips, and use a numbing gel to minimise any discomfort. We also use a device called the wand, which is a computer-controlled tool for delivering anesthesia. It’s not just comfortable; it’s associated with minimal pain.
And for a more relaxing environment, our dental chair offers a soothing back massage while you enjoy your favourite Netflix shows or movies via noise-cancelling headphones. You can stay entertained without being bothered by the sounds of the treatment.
We make sure you're always in control during your treatment
We encourage communication, and to facilitate that, we establish signals. For example, raising your left hand can be a signal for experiencing discomfort or needing a short break. Our goal is to make sure you’re comfortable, so if you need us to pause, we will. We don’t want you to experience any discomfort.
We also have the option of nitrous oxide, or ‘happy gas’, which can help ease your nerves. It’s a more cost effective alternative to sleep dentistry and can help you feel more relaxed, while still remaining awake.
We’re all about creating a relaxing spa-like environment that prioritises your comfort and peace of mind. We’re here to make your dental care experience as pleasant as possible.
So, if you’re anxious about getting dental treatment done and like the sound of our approach, we would love to look after you.
Feel free to give us a call on (02) 9100 0120, complete the form on our website, or direct message us on social media, and our friendly team will be in touch to schedule your consultation. See you in the next video!
