What Happens at Your Initial Consultation?
Never been to a dentist, or has it been a while since your last visit? Feeling like now is the time to do something about your oral health? We would love to take you through what happens at an initial consultation here at Delight Dental Spa.
By the way, I’m Dr Bishoy, and I’m one of the dentists here at Delight Dental Spa in Mascot, Sydney.
Now, let’s talk about what you can expect at your very first appointment. Our goal is to really get to know you and your individual needs so that the care we provide is perfectly suited to you. Whether you’ve had some past dental hiccups or are feeling a bit anxious, we just ask you to share a little more about that so we can ensure you feel looked after. We’re here to make your journey as comfortable as possible.
Next, we want to know your goals for your oral health. What brought you here? Is it a total smile makeover or some specific discomfort? We ask that you let us know the issues that bother you first. This way, we can guide you through the solutions that best meet your needs, along with payment options, to ease that process.
If pain is your concern, we aim to diagnose its source and provide preventative strategies. We are not just about fixing immediate problems but also about equipping you with long-term preventative measures. We make sure you fully understand your oral health and its possible treatments.
Once we understand you and your goals, we carry out a comprehensive examination. We understand dental anxiety, and if it’s too overwhelming for you, we can always schedule your treatment with options like sleep dentistry. We’re here to discuss your options and answer any questions you may have.
Keep in mind, though, that everyone’s visit can be different. Some may come in for a regular check and clean, while others might book a consultation. But no worries—whether you’re a new patient or a returning one, we treat everyone with equal care and attention.
After your exam, we take a seat together to talk about our findings, not in the dental chair but across a table. We want to ensure you’re comfortable and not feeling vulnerable. We’ll chat about your oral health, how your muscles, jaw joints, and gums are doing, any cavities we found, diet suggestions, and prevention methods.
Next, we get back to the dental chair for some prevention work suited just for you, including brushing and flossing routines. We’ll also gently clean your teeth with Airflow. It’s comfortable, that involves warm water, less vibration, and less sensitivity. If your teeth are too sensitive, we can always break the cleaning over a few appointments.
To sum it up, once you come in, you will fill out the paperwork. Our friendly receptionist will guide you through some forms to gather your health and personal information so we can provide the best possible care for you. Once that’s done, your dentist will invite you into the room for a chat to understand your goals and any anxieties. Then, we proceed with the examination, discuss the findings, your options, payment plans, and finally, the cleaning process.
We assure you, we’re here to make your dental journey as smooth and comfortable as possible.
I hope this gives you a better understanding of what happens at the initial consultation here at Delight Dental Spa. It is very simple, and there is nothing to be anxious about. So if you are looking for a dentist to look after you, call us at (02) 9100 0120, send us a direct message on social media, or complete the enquiry form on our website, and we will help you organise your appointment. We look forward to meeting you soon!
